Historical Timeline of Ba Dinh Square

Ban đầu, Quảng trường Ba Đình là một cổng phía Tây của Kinh thành Thăng Long, nơi sầm uất với hoạt động buôn bán và làng nghề. Vào đầu thế kỷ 20, người Pháp xây dựng và đặt tên theo một linh mục người Pháp là Puginier.

Sau 2 lần đổi tên thành Quảng trường Hồng Bàng và Quảng trường Độc Lập, cuối cùng nó đã được đổi tên thành Quảng trường Ba Đình như ngày nay. Một sự thật ít người biết là tên Ba Đình không phải là do Bác Hồ đặt ra mà là của bác sĩ Trần Văn Lai, thị trưởng Hà Nội thời chính phủ Trần Trọng Kim.

Nơi Bác Hồ đọc bản Tuyên ngôn Độc lập và là địa điểm diễn ra nhiều sự kiện quan trọng trong lịch sử đất nước. Từ sau khi Thủ đô được giải phóng, từ năm 1954 đến 1969, đây cũng là nơi Bác Hồ sinh sống và làm việc, nơi diễn ra các cuộc họp quan trọng của Trung ương Đảng, Chính phủ và Quốc hội.
