Unique Architectural Features
Đức An ancient house blends ancient Vietnamese architecture with Chinese style. Its overall size is quite spacious for a house in the center of the old town. With a length of 39m and a width of 7m, it follows a tube-shaped structure with a central courtyard.

The house front showcases a triple-door system. In the middle is the main entrance, flanked by two large windows, positioned about 70 – 80 centimeters above the ground. Notably, the entire front facade is crafted from wood, enhancing the antique charm from the first glance. Unlike other ancient houses, the three doors here are quite unique. The main door features shorter panels, not exceeding the height of an adult. The two side doors, on the other hand, abandon door panels in favor of horizontally arranged wooden planks, locally known as 'cửa ván xáng.'

Similar to other ancient houses in Hoi An, Duc An ancient house is roofed with the familiar yin and yang tiles. Beneath these tiles, the framework, and house ceiling are entirely constructed from wood, remaining sturdy and resilient over hundreds of years.

A distinctive feature of this house's structure is that it is predominantly built with wood, specifically 'kiềng kiềng' wood found exclusively in the Quang Nam region. With this type of wood, the house can withstand the hot and humid climate of this sunny and windy Central land.
Furthermore, the house harnesses natural light, blending nature into its structure.

Thus, this place has preserved many works of the famous patriot Phan Chau Trinh during the Duy Tan movement, and notably includes many famous historical publications such as Tan The Ky, Dong Phap thoi bao…
